Designing Answers,
Not Just Charts
Helping investors understand what drives performance and compare investment opportunities.
The Brief
Help investors make sense of fund performance
Allianz wanted to enhance its Fund Explorer platform. Investors could already reach the data through factsheets and reports — but feedback showed they struggled to understand why performance changed, and found comparing funds across documents painful.
Focus 01
Help investors understand what is driving fund performance.
Focus 02
Make it easier to compare funds side-by-side.
My Role
Supporting the design lead — turning requirements into wireframes, prototypes and high-fidelity designs.
Understanding the Problem
Before designing, we learned how investors actually research funds
Our design lead ran the discovery research. I supported it — reviewing existing factsheets, competitor products and other financial-services examples, and sitting in on the sessions. Three questions came up again and again.
Opportunity Areas
Where could we improve the experience?
Working with stakeholders and the design lead, we narrowed the brief to two clear opportunities.
Lack of performance insights for investors
No easy way to compare funds across the platform
How is the market affecting the fund
Performance Insights
Let users investigate what is driving performance — rather than simply viewing a chart.
Fund Comparison
Let users compare multiple funds without downloading and cross-referencing multiple reports.
Exploring Concepts
Starting wide, on paper
I started with sketches and low-fidelity wireframes to explore ways of presenting a lot of information at once. The real question: how much do users need immediately, versus what can be revealed progressively?
